Venice at Sunset -Henry Foley
John Henry Foley (1848-1874) was Irish, born in Dublin. In 1831 at the tender age of 13 he entered into the Art School of the Royal Dublin Society. After training vigorously, he moved to London, where he continued his artistic education at the Royal Academy Schools. Later, he set up his own studio on Osnaburgh street in London. He began exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1839 and did so until his death in 1874. Further, he exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy of Dublin and the British institution in London. This elegant work of aproachable size is classical, oil on canvas, signed, lower right in the original frame. Verso inscription. Measurements with frame 23” x 17”, without frame 15.5 x 9.5”. Condition: fair for age.
