Scottish Coast-Walter Shaw
Walter James Shaw (1851-1933)was English, born in Westbury on Trym near Bristol, but he engaged in most of his artistic life in Devon. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1878 and 1904. Recognized as exceptional in his own time, two of his works (in 1880 and 1904) were selected for the Royal Academy private collection! The prestigious Bristol Art Gallery also boasts 2 of his paintings in its private collection. This work is oil on canvas in fresh and appealing blue tones, signed lower left in original frame. Measurements with frame 39.5”X 23”, without frame 35.5”X19.5”. The painting is larger in scale - over three feet in length.
