Saint Aubin - Eugene Demester
Eugene Demester (1914-1996) was born in Paris, the son of a well known artist Charles Lefevre. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts on Paris, showing both promise and well developed artistic skill. Demester exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais where he won the silver medal and 5 honorable mentions - quite exceptional recognition! He also won the Prix Rosset twice at the Salon d'Hiver and in gold medals at the Salon d'Asniers in 1952 and 1956. Today his paintings are in the collection of the City of Paris, among other major European collections. This rather large oil on canvas rests in the original frame, signed lower left. The setting is serene, the break of day just arriving, for the lone fisherman just at the shoreline.
