This large and vibrant French modernist painting by Henri Valachman (1925–2020) demonstrates the artist’s distinctive use of stylized forms, expressive brushwork and bold, highly personal color. Born in Paris, Valachman studied at the École des Métiers d’Art de la rue du Louvre in Paris and developed a career centered on the expressive possibilities of painting. He described his approach as taking inspiration from nature and the everyday world, then transforming his subjects through stylization and his own distinctive chromatic language.
Valachman exhibited regularly throughout France and was a member of the Salon Violet and a selected artist of the Salon des Artistes Français. His exhibition history included annual exhibitions in numerous French cities as well as personal exhibitions in Chilly-Mazarin, Carnac and at Galerie Art World. His work was also selected by galleries and European exhibitions, including Salon des Artistes Européens.
His career was accompanied by a remarkable succession of awards. Beginning with the Prix de la Ville de Longjumeau in 1986, he received additional prizes and distinctions from the Conseil Général de l’Essonne, Salon de Villemoisson and other French art organizations. He was ultimately awarded the Médaille du Mérite et du Dévouement Français au titre des Arts.
