Notre Dame - Ramon Dilley
This striking oil on board, Notre Dame, by Ramon Dilley (1932–2014), is signed lower left and dated 1972. Painted with vibrant color and expressive brushwork, the composition captures the timeless grandeur of Paris's most iconic cathedral while conveying the romantic atmosphere that became a hallmark of Dilley's work. Born in Madrid to a Spanish family that fled the Civil War, Dilley settled in France as a child and later entered the École du Louvre through the encouragement of sculptor Paul Belmondo. Although largely self-taught as a painter, he quickly established a distinctive style characterized by nostalgia, luminous color, and elegant depictions of Paris and the celebrated resorts of Deauville, Trouville, Cannes, and Nice. Working under the pseudonym Ramon Dilley, adopted on the advice of renowned auctioneer Maurice Rheims, he exhibited successfully in France and abroad, attracting an international clientele. Among his notable collectors were filmmaker Claude Chabrol, Prince Rainier III of Monaco, the Shah of Iran, and former French President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing. For the art lover, Notre Dame offers the enduring romance of Paris interpreted through a bold, colorful palette that complements both traditional and contemporary interiors. Rich in atmosphere and unmistakably French in character, it serves as an elegant focal point while bringing a sense of history, sophistication, and European charm to any space.Measurements: 30" × 21" framed and 23.5" × 14.5" unframed.Condition: Excellent.
