Floral Still Life - Corneliu Baba
This oil on canvas is signed lower right and dated 1981. It is by Corneliu Baba, a Romanian painter (1906-1997). He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest and later studied under one of the best Romanian painters, Nicolae Tonitza, at the Academy of Fine Art in Iasi. He was influenced by both El Greco and Goya, but his style of painting became mix of Renaissance and Baroque, and was described as a form of tenebrism. He has also drawn comparisons to Cezanne. The piece is in original frame.
