Copper Plate Engraving SERIES - Henri Louis Duhamel du Monceau
Duhamel du Monceau (1700-1782) was one of the most important French writers on fruit and agriculture at a time when this was coveted and valued information. His "Trait des Arbres Fruitiers", from which these plates derive, is one of the most famous books on fruit trees in all of Europe. Each plate illustrates the plant's seed foliage, blossom, fruit and sometimes cross-section of the specimen. The engravers for this book include many esteemed names such as L.A. Herisset, Catherine and Elisabeth Hussard, Tardieu, Milsan, Menil, Benoist and Dupuis. Note that these are authentic antique prints, not copies or reproductions. Relatively rare, we have never before aquired them in our 20+ years in the business and are pleased to present them at an excellent price.
Hand colored on hand laid cotton paper, they are in excellent condition for their age, and are as lovely to look at today as when they were printed. One has a left corner tear that does not affect border or image. Each measures 10"x13". Price $325 each, sold individually. We have many and are pleased to show interested parties each plate.
