Sold Out

If you lean toward contemporary or modern art, we are betting that Emile Courtin (1923-1997) will delight you both! Considered one of the best French modernist painters. Courtin was born in Authon-du-Perche at a transformational time in European art. He studied at the prestigious Ecole de Beaux-Arts in Paris Under the famed Jean Dupas, whose work defined the art deco movement. Courtin graduated from the important art school Casa de Valezquez in Madrid, where he was undoubtedly influenced by the Spanish art scene as well. He went onto win numerous prizes and awards at different Paris Art Salons upon his return to France. Celebrated internationally, his daring use of color and proportion was riotous then and stands out as audacious even today. The color of his work can only be appreciated with the naked eye! He exhibited at the Gallerie Cardo-Matignon in Paris and the Musee de Nogent le Rotrou among others. Today the works of the superb and singular visionary are present in numerous and important private collections, as well as museums around the world such as the Musee de Beaux-Arts in Canada and the Musee du Château Saint Jean. This piece is a delightful Cubist work, and one of a few from this artist that we are lucky to have at this time. It is oil on canvas, signed lower left, in original frame.

Measurements 30.5x20.5 with frame, 24.5x19.5 without frame.
