Antoine Ponchin (1872 to 1933) was French, born in Marseille. He studied under Theophile Henri Decanis and Jean Baptiste Olive. From 1893 he was a regular exhibitor at the Salon de Paris here he received honorable mention in 1904 and a third class metal in 1906. That  same year he was also awarded the Prix de Raigecourt-Goyon, and in 1922 he was awarded the Prix de Indochine. Such a decorated artist, his works are today present in museums such as the Musee des Beaux-Arts Rouen, the Huntsville Museum of Art, and the Musee des Beaux-Arts de Nimes. A stunning impressionist work! This is oil on board signed, lower right and a fabulous original frame.
