Boats at Martigues - Paul Simons
Paul Simons (1865-1932) was a French painter, born in Marseille. He studied under Jean Pierre Laurens and Louis Olivier Merson and gained notoriety for his gorgeous port and marine works. In 1902 he became Drawing Inspector in the Paris Schools. He was also official painter for the Navy in the Colonies. He exhibited at the Paris Art Salon with honorable mention in 1904 and 1905. This work is Oil on Canvas, signed lower left in original frame - which is golder in person than the photos here illustrate. The colors and texture are lovely, and the reflections on the water make this quite an impressive piece! Measurements with frame 28”X212.5”, without frame 21”X14.5”
