Sea Waves – William Thornton Brocklebank

This work by William Thornton Brocklebank (1882 to 1970) is signed lower right. Brocklebank was English, educated at Cambridge University. Always an artist, he also served in World War I. He was influenced by the French impressionist movement and spent time in France after serving in the war. His style transformed, and he returned to Cornwall where he was elected president of the Plymouth Society of Artists in the UK. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1952 and 1958. This swirling, dynamic work captures a roiling sea, bringing many blues to life. It is oil on canvas is an original frame.
