Oil on canvas by Antal Berkes, 1874-1938, signed lower right. Berkes was a Hungarian artist who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. Known for his landscapes and street scenes of Budapest and Vienna, he experimented with light, producing many works that vary in intensity and tone. He also lived and worked in Paris. Many of his paintings of Paris live were showcased at the Otto Herman Museum, organized by the European Contemporary Art Association. His works regularly sell in the range of $5,000. to $15,000. This is a particularly lovely example of his work in terms of color, balance, tone and perspective.
