Summer Rain - Alva Dawson

Lovely, delicate and so beautifully rendered, this oil on board by Alva Dawson (1915-?) is signed lower right, in original frame, exhibition inscription verso. Dawson was English, born in Leicester. She attended the Nottingham School of Art between 1933 and 1938, and also attended Goldsmith College. Her works were exhibited at the Suffolk Street Galleries in London as she became known for her airy impressonist style, bordering on post-impressionism. The painting presented here was exhibited at the Royal Institute Galleries in London (Piccadilly). Today, her work is held in private collections and rarely comes to market.
